Understanding the Legal Framework

There are 2 ways of adopting a child in Malaysia. First method is an adoption by way of approaching the National Registration Department (JPN). Second method is an adoption by way of a Court Order. 

 

The key difference in the issuance of the certificate for the adopted child. In the former, a child will be given an adoption certificate, whilst in the latter, the child will be given a new birth certificate carrying the adoptive parents’ names as the real parents.
